League Convenors

Position Summary

Under the direction of Recreation Program Coordinator, League Convenors will provide on-site support by helping facilitate league activities. The position may be assigned to any City of Peterborough recreational facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome participants and provide league information including how to register, contact information, and league format;
  •  Assist with participant check-in and attendance, as required;
  • Answer general questions related to the league in a courteous and informed manner, and refer concerns or issues to recreation staff when appropriate;
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for all participants;
  • Help organize league play including coordinating schedules, matches or team rotations;
  • Communicate league procedures, rules and schedules to participants;
  • Encourage fair play, good sportsmanship, and respectful interactions among participants;
  • Help distribute and collect league equipment or supplies before and after each session, and informing recreation staff if any equipment is missing or requiring replacement;
  • Record game scores, standings, or results, where applicable;
  •   Assist with basic league administration, including completing attendance and/or score sheets;
  • Monitor the overall flow of league activities and notify recreation staff of any safety concerns, incidents, or participant issues
  •  Assist in collecting and communicating participant feedback to recreation staff
  • Provide support in emergency situations by following established safety protocols and informing recreation and/or facility staff as needed; and
  • Perform other volunteer duties as related to league operations as assigned by recreation staff

Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will have well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, in addition to excellent communication skills;
  •  Comfortable interacting with participants of diverse ages, backgrounds and abilities;
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks in a recreational setting;
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in charging situations;
  • Ability to remain fair, impartial, and respectful when assisting league activities;
  • Willingness to follow municipal policies, procedures, and staff direction;
  • Previous experience participating in or volunteering with recreational leagues is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of the specific league activity is an asset; training will be provided where necessary; and
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service and helping create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for all participants
