The Public Art & Placemaking Associate will support the coordination and implementation of public art and placemaking projects, with a focus on community engagement. Working alongside Cultural Services staff and community partners, this role will assist with research, project coordination, and engagement activities that contribute to meaningful and inclusive cultural spaces. The position provides hands-on experience in public art delivery and cultural planning, supporting projects that reflect diverse perspectives and strengthen connections between people, place, and culture.

Duties

  • Support the coordination and implementation of public art and placemaking projects
  • Assist with Indigenous-led initiatives in collaboration with staff, artists, and community partners
  • Conduct research to support public art projects, cultural planning, and placemaking strategies
  • Assist with community engagement activities, including workshops and consultations
  • Support project administration including scheduling, documentation, and tracking deliverables
  • Assist with public art installations, site visits, and coordination with contractors where appropriate
  • Help maintain records of public art assets, including inventories and project files

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in fine arts, cultural studies, urban planning, cultural studies, or a related field
  • Interest in public art, placemaking, and community-based cultural work
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn about Indigenous perspectives and cultural protocols
  • Strong research, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with arts programming, community engagement, or project coordination is an asset
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic project management tools

Hourly Rate

$24.00
