Job Details
The Environmental Protection Division oversees the operation and maintenance of a Class 4, 68 ML/D Wastewater Treatment Plant, 10 Pumping Stations, 1 Emergency Bypass Station and the Centennial Fountain. The shift operator in charge will monitor and control the plant processes, including interpreting and responding appropriately to alarms and messages generated by the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
The successful candidate will work permanent rotating shifts as an Operator in Charge of plant operations. You will also perform grounds maintenance and cleaning tasks at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Centennial Fountain and Sewage Pumping Stations; perform preventative and emergency maintenance work on specialized equipment; plant security and be responsible for the plants biological processes.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess Operator-in-Training (OIT) certification in Wastewater Treatment (WWT) and Wastewater Collection (WWC), with preference given to candidates who already hold Level 3 or 4 Treatment certification. Candidates with OIT certification must be able to obtain Level 1 certification within one year and demonstrate the ability to progress to Level 4 Treatment certification within a reasonable timeframe.
Must have good organizational and time management skills; must be able to adapt to changing situations and the ability to work without supervision. Must be capable of performing the physical demands association with the position. Candidates must have a valid Class G driver’s license. This position will involve permanent rotating shifts and the possibility of on-call coverage.
Salary
This job class will be compensated in accordance with the 2026 CUPE L504 Schedule A rates as follows:
WWTP Operator in Training - $30.11
WWTP Operator 1 – $34.11
WWTP Operator 2 – $35.33
WWTP Operator 3 – $36.59
WWTP Operator 4 – $38.84
