The city is hiring Seasonal Public Works Labourers to support a range of crews that help
with road and sidewalk maintenance, traffic control, asphalt repair, and horticultural work such as planting, weeding, and general grounds upkeep across the community.
This role involves physical outdoor work in all weather conditions and includes day, weekend, and night shifts. It’s a solid opportunity to gain experience working for a municipal employer while contributing to essential City services.
Please note: The majority of seasonal contracts are expected to run from April 20 to November 27, 2026. A limited number of positions will have a later start date of May 4, 2026, primarily intended for students.
Duties include assisting with:
- Traffic control and work site set-up
- Sidewalk construction and repairs
- Asphalt patching and road/boulevard maintenance
- Grass cutting, weeding, and horticultural work
- General labour duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract
- Minimum 2 years of related work experience
- Ability to follow procedures and work safely as part of a team
- Training in Traffic Control Book 7, WHMIS, and First Aid/CPR/AED are considered assets
- Satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check
- The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. A Functional Abilities Test will be completed prior to the start date and must be successfully passed.
Additional Information
- Completion of all pre-employment requirements (driver’s abstract, police check, and functional abilities assessment) is required prior to the start date.
- Returning seasonal employees must re-apply to be considered; however, they are not required to re-interview.
Salary
$24.86/hour
