Job Details
Provide direct, low ratio support to children with special needs who are registered in the Junior Discovery Camp (children aged 4 to 6) and the Discovery Camp (children aged 7 to 11) to ensure a safe, and comfortable environment for all camp registrants. This role will act as a resource to the Day Camp team in terms of inclusive programming, will fully and actively participate in all camp activities and staff meetings, and will participate in the planning, the development and the delivery of PMA public programs during the peak summer period. The role will ensure the appropriate adult:child ratio of 1:10.
The role will also support the Youth Leadership training, overseeing the Youth Leaders, and assisting with the delivery of age-appropriate activities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- Previous experience in an early childhood education, education, interpretation in a heritage, cultural or natural setting;
- Post-secondary education or equivalent in a field related to education, early childhood education, tourism, culture, heritage or other humanities;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Proven planning and organizational skills;
- An ability to work well with the public;
- An ability to work within a team;
- Proven willingness to respect health, safety and security issues in the workplace;
- Possess confidence and sensitivity: comfortable with children, youth, adults and seniors;
- As a condition of hire, candidates will be required to complete Standard First Aid and Level ‘C’ CPR/ AED training and provide a vulnerable sector check prior to the start of employment.
- Candidates must also complete the City of Peterborough WHIMIS and AODA training.
- Access to own vehicle considering an asset.
Hours of Work: The Museum Discovery Camp Leader must be available to work full time weekdays, including occasional weekends and evenings from June 22 to August 21, 2026. Hours of work are expected to vary and will not exceed 40 hours/week.
To be an eligible candidate, as stipulated by the granting agency, Canada Summer Jobs, the applicant must be a Canadian citizen, legally entitled to work in Canada, and be between the ages of 16 and 30. Position is subject to grant funding approval.

$18.99/Hour
