Job Details

The Geographical Information System (GIS) Summer Student position provides support to the Geomatics Division in various projects maintaining and developing the City’s GIS infrastructure. Tasks will include on-screen digitizing, data entry, recording and archiving, building and maintaining databases, field data collection, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) of data received from external sources and other GIS related tasks.

This is a temporary full-time position from May 2026 to September 2026.

Qualifications

Requires an individual currently enrolled in a College Diploma program in advanced GIS. Have a working knowledge of terminologies and concepts of cartography and GIS, relational database management systems (RDBMS) and knowledge and experience using Esri products. Knowledge of MS Office Suite including Excel and Access required. Ability to perform a variety of routine clerical tasks related to engineering work, including filing, record-keeping and other duties as required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with others; ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers as well as co-workers. Must have a high attention to detail and standards. Must be able to carry out task individually or as part of a team. Self-motivated and disciplined.

Salary

$25.96 per hour
