Job Details
Reporting to the Manager, Waste Diversion, the Coordinator, Organics Programs & Circular Economy supports the development, implementation, and ongoing delivery of the City’s waste diversion programs and initiatives. The role contributes to advancing the City’s Waste Management Master Plan by assisting with program rollout, stakeholder engagement, monitoring program performance, and supporting public education initiatives.
A primary focus of the position is supporting the continued implementation and expansion of the City’s Green Bin Program, including Phase 2 outreach to restaurants and food-generating businesses. This includes conducting outreach and education, assisting with program implementation, monitoring participation and set-out quality, and working directly with program participants to troubleshoot operational challenges and improve diversion outcomes.
The Coordinator also supports broader waste diversion and circular economy initiatives through research, program monitoring, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement. Working collaboratively with internal City staff, community partners, and local businesses, the role helps identify opportunities to strengthen diversion programs, promote responsible waste management practices, and support continuous improvement in the City’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
Anticipated Contract Dates: May – October 2026
Qualifications
- University degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Resource Management, or a related environmental discipline, combined with approximately two (2) to three (3) years of related experience supporting environmental programs, waste management initiatives, sustainability programs, or similar operational projects.
- Knowledge of waste management and waste diversion principles, including recycling, organics diversion programs, and the 4R’s hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle, recover).
- Working knowledge of organics diversion and composting systems, including municipal collection programs and centralized processing facilities.
- Understanding of emerging waste diversion and circular economy initiatives at the municipal or provincial level considered an asset.
- Experience supporting program implementation, stakeholder outreach, or public education initiatives, including working with businesses, community members, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to monitor program participation, collect and analyze data, and prepare reports or communication materials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities to improve diversion program performance.
- Well-developed organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with standard office software and data management tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability and improving waste diversion outcomes.
Salary
$40.17 per hour
