Community Events Greeter & Guide Volunteer

Position Summary:

As a Community Events Greeter and Guide Volunteer, you will play an important role in ensuring the success of community-focused events by offering friendly support to visitors, assisting with event logistics, and helping maintain a safe, welcoming environment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with the public, have a positive attitude, and are passionate about creating memorable community experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet attendees and provide event information, including layout, schedules, and available services.
  • Answer general questions related to the event and venue in a courteous and informed manner.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere for all guests, participants, and fellow volunteers.
  • Support event setup and takedown as needed (e.g., arranging signage, decorations).
  • Assist with the distribution and collection of event materials (e.g., pamphlets, forms, surveys).
  • Help maintain a clean and safe environment throughout the event by monitoring public areas and reporting any issues to staff.
  • Maintain sign-in sheets, checking guest lists, and recording attendance.
  • Support staff with basic administrative tasks like, organizing supplies, and assembling event kits or information packages.
  • Assist in collecting feedback from participants or distributing post-event surveys.
  • Provide support in emergency situations by following established safety protocols and informing event supervisors as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 13 years or older (Volunteers under 18 must submit a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian).
  • Friendly, approachable, and able to interact positively with diverse community members.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen and respond effectively.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable performing light physical tasks (e.g., standing for extended periods, lifting light items).
  • Experience volunteering or working at public events is an asset but not required.
  • Duties as assigned.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening Check and/or Criminal Record Check may be required depending on the nature of the event.

Additional Information:

Volunteers will be asked to attend a short orientation or training session prior to the event.
Appropriate attire may be required depending on the event (e.g., volunteer T-shirt, name badge, this information will be emailed out prior to the event).
