Job Details
The Animal Health Technician participates in the daily care of the animals in the zoo collection including preparing diets/feeding the animals according to the prescribed schedule; cleaning and disinfecting holdings, exhibits and service areas and participating in the management of animal data files. The secondary function associated with this position is to ensure the well-being of the animals of the zoo’s collection by providing preventative and emergent health care. This will include scheduling and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian, providing basic emergency care, nursing and intensive care for the zoo’s animal collection. The position includes regular weekend & holiday shifts on a rotating schedule.
Qualifications
Requires completion of a Veterinary Technician Diploma combines with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a zoo or comparable animal care environment supported by strong knowledge of biology, zoology, and animal husbandry. The successful candidate will be skilled in handling and assessing a variety of species, familiar with proper animal care procedures, and knowledgeable about safety protocols, OHSA, and WHMIS. Proficiency with MS Office and animal management systems such as ZIMS, ISIS, and MedARKS is also required.
Hourly Rate
$31.58 - $39.33
