Join us as a Traffic Technologist I, where your knowledge of traffic signal operations, combined with your expertise in signal maintenance and electrical systems, will help keep Peterborough’s roads safe and efficient.
In this role, you’ll take the lead in repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining traffic signal equipment and streetlighting infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation across the city. Your understanding of signal timing, coordination, and operational principles will be key to optimizing traffic flow and safety.
You’ll work hands-on in the field and collaborate with contractors, City staff, and the public to deliver high-quality service. Beyond maintenance, you’ll assist with signal coordination, electrical inspections, and system upgrades, while supporting traffic data collection, permitting, and technical reporting.
This position is ideal for someone with strong electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to improving transportation systems through smart, efficient signal operations.
Qualifications
- Three-year college diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology or related field.
- Up to 4 years of related experience in traffic operations or engineering technology.
- Membership in OACETT and IMSA (or eligibility and commitment to obtain certifications).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of CAD and traffic software.
- Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field settings.
- Valid Class “G” driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
Salary: $75,657.40
