*Unsorted waste is defined as waste where there was no intention to separate divertible waste streams from regular garbage. Divertible waste streams include, but are not limited to, recycling, organics (green bin household organics and/or leaf and yard waste), wood waste, scrap metal, tires, electronics, mattresses and appliances.
Clear bag garbage will be considered sorted; however, the bags must not contain more than 10% divertible wastes. Any waste received in an opaque bag will be considered unsorted.
Determination of what constitutes unsorted waste will be decided by landfill staff onsite.
Please note that regular tipping fees still apply to all properly sorted waste.
Vehicles that leave the landfill property without weighing out will be subject to a fine of $125.
You can take household hazardous waste items, such as televisions, electronic devices, paint and batteries to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot at 400 Pido Rd.
At the Peterborough Waste Management Facility, we only accept waste generated in the City and County of Peterborough.
Tarping your landfill loads
All loads brought to the landfill in open-top vehicles, like pickup trucks, must be tarped. We impose fines for loads that aren't covered by a tarp when they're brought the landfill in open-top vehicles.
