Document Commissioning
Document Commissioning Services are available at City Hall by appointment. Please contact the Clerk's Office at 705-742-7777 ext. 1820 to book an appointment.
A Commissioner of Oaths is a person authorized by the Province of Ontario to take oaths or declarations when you sign an affidavit or statutory declaration. The Clerk's Office at City Hall has several Commissioners of Oaths. The document you require signed should state that a Commissioner of Oaths is able to provide the service. Please note that we do not have a Notary Public on staff.
The Commissioner of Oaths will review the documents you wish to have commissioned. We reserve the right to refuse commissioning services of any document. Documents in a language other than English cannot be commissioned.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes - please contact our office at 705-742-7777 ext. 1820 to make an appointment. We cannot guarantee service unless you have made an appointment with the Clerk's Office.
Certified True Copies
The Clerk's Office is able to commission documents. If you require “Certified True Copies of Documents”, such as provincial documents (i.e. Ontario Driver's Licence) or federal documents (i.e. a passport) we suggest that you contact the issuer for this service. We are unable to provide Certified True Copies of documents that we did not issue at City Hall.
We are unable to commission documents produced by other agencies such as school certificates or diplomas. Official copies of these documents, including transcripts, can be obtained by the issuer.
Fees
We charge $26.55 plus HST per signature to commission documents. After the first signature, each additional signature is $5 plus HST. Payment may be made by Visa, Master Card, cash or debit.
Documents required under the Vital Statistics Act (i.e. Name Change, Delayed Statement of Birth) will be commissioned free of charge.
Identification required
In order to have a document commissioned, all parties required to sign the document must appear in person and have valid, government issued photo identification.
Notary Public
Documents requiring a Notary Public cannot be completed in our office. Please search for “Notary Public” in the phone book or on-line to find individuals able to perform this service for you.
