Summer Student – Municipal Law Enforcement Support

The Corporation of the City of Peterborough is seeking a responsible and motivated Summer Student to support the Municipal Law Enforcement Division. This role will assist with general investigations and parking enforcement support while gaining practical experience in a municipal government environment.
The position offers a unique opportunity to learn about regulatory compliance, by-law enforcement, and public service while working with experienced law enforcement professionals.
You will provide administrative and field support for general by-law investigations. Assist in the documentation and tracking of by-law complaints and enforcement actions. Conduct preliminary reviews of complaints (e.g., noise, property standards, animal control). Support parking enforcement operations, including field monitoring, ticket issuance, and reporting. Prepare routine correspondence, reports, and documentation using established formats. Engage with the public in a professional and respectful manner to provide information or direction. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to municipal privacy and safety policies at all times.
Qualifications
Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program, preferably in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field. Valid Class G driver’s license preferred; clean driver’s abstract required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion. Comfortable working both in an office setting and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Experience working with the public is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of municipal by-laws and procedures is considered an asset.
Salary
$20.11/hour
