Job Details

The Storekeeper is responsible for all functions and processes related to goods and services that are sourced and delivered for identified departments within the City. Duties and responsibilities will adhere to the City of Peterborough’s Procurement By-Law, policies, processes, and procedures which promote efficient and effective workflows through the utilization of the City’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software SAP, and associated technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Sourcing: Identify needs, conduct market research, evaluate suppliers, negotiate pricing and terms, and select goods/services that deliver best value.
  • Supplier & Contract Management: Maintain vendor relationships, manage contracts, ensure compliance, and oversee supplier performance.
  • Purchase Order & Billing: Manage full PO lifecycle, verify billing accuracy, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Receiving & Inventory Processing: Unload, inspect, label, and store goods; manage packaging and report nonconformances.
  • Order Fulfillment & Shipping: Pick, pack, and ship orders; coordinate inbound/outbound shipments and maintain freight and customs accounts.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, forecast demand, conduct audits, optimize processes, and generate reports using SAP.
  • Warehouse Operations: Organize storage areas, operate material handling equipment, maintain a safe work environment, and support general warehouse tasks.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure goods meet standards, manage MSDS documentation, and maintain labeling/barcoding systems.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, data collection tools, and electronic/physical filing systems.
  • Skilled in researching products/vendors online and interpreting basic specifications and drawings.
  • Knowledgeable in purchasing, inventory management, and vendor relations.
  • Familiar with customs documentation (e.g., USMCA-NFTA), commercial invoicing, and international shipping.
  • Experienced in materials handling, forklift operation, WHMIS, and handling dangerous goods.
  • Understanding of components used across all City departments, safety supplies, and both imperial/metric measurement systems.
  • Basic accounting knowledge (A/R, A/P) to support budget tracking and invoice reconciliation.
  • Proficient in SAP and related ERP/software systems used by the City.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in purchasing or inventory management.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, internet research, and data management tools.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, inventory, and basic accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with OHSA, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Ontario Provincial Standards.
  • Certifications in forklift operation, First Aid/CPR, ladder safety, and spill management are assets.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver’s license and ability to perform physical tasks (e.g., lifting up to 30 kg).
  • Working knowledge of SAP and related City software systems.
