As the Program Manager, Environmental Initiatives, you will play a key role in advancing sustainability, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across the City’s Environmental Services Division. This position combines leadership, project coordination, and community engagement—ranging from supporting green waste and solid waste diversion programs, to enhancing public spaces and promoting environmental stewardship. With opportunities to guide staff development, implement best practices, and oversee key initiatives, this role is well-suited for a collaborative and forward-thinking professional eager to grow into broader municipal leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- University degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, or a related discipline
- Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) or equivalent process improvement certification (preferred)
- Valid Ontario G-class driver’s license, in good standing
Experience
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in program coordination, quality assurance, or environmental services
- Experience in a unionized or municipal environment, with change management and workforce development exposure
- Background in conducting internal audits, compliance reviews, or operational performance evaluations (preferred)
- Equivalent combination of education and 7+ years of relevant experience will be considered
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, asset management principles, and Environmental Services operations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
- Analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Familiarity with data-driven tools and process improvement methodologies
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate, and communicate across all organizational levels
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on staff development, training, and workforce planning
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering a respectful workplace
- Ability to work independently while promoting accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Salary
$96,233 - $105,170
