Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Level II - General Investigations

Job Details

As the MLEO II – General Investigations, you will interpret and enforce various City by-laws and municipal standards while supporting MLEO Level III officer investigations. You will also provide coverage for MLEO Level II – Signs, Pools, and Licensing, as well as MLEO Level I duties as required. Your responsibilities will include investigating and responding to complaints by inspecting municipal and private properties and buildings, utilizing the IEE (Inform, Educate, Enforce) methodology to achieve compliance efficiently and effectively. You will collect and maintain evidence related to investigations, issue Penalty Notices under the City's Administrative Monetary Penalty System and prepare for and initiate prosecutions for Provincial Offences matters related to municipal enforcement and compliance.

Qualifications 

Two-year college diploma in Law Enforcement or an equivalent qualification in a recognized discipline. Certification with the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association (MLEOA) or the ability to obtain. Up to three years of combined previous and on-the-job experience in a compliance-related field. Intermediate proficiency in word processing. Familiarity with municipal property database applications is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain personal decorum and de-escalate third-party hostility. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing demands, deadlines, and cyclical workloads. Ability to perform effectively in highly stressful environments. Capable of meeting the physical, mental, and visual demands of the role, including regular crouching and kneeling, lifting and moving up to 40 lbs., standing or sitting for extended periods, traversing uneven or difficult terrain, climbing, and working on ladders. Availability of working evenings and weekends as required. Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to fulfill job duties. Successful candidates must provide a current criminal reference check with a vulnerable sector check.
