Job Details
As the MLEO II – Mobile Enforcement and Security you will be actively patrolling the City’s 108 named Parks as well as other municipal properties to ensure the security of those facilities and general compliance with the City’s By-laws, namely the Parks and Facilities By-law and Trespass By-Law. Investigate and enforce various by-laws and municipal standards when contraventions are identified through patrol or responding to calls for, including the undertaking of an arrest under s. 9 of the Trespass to Property Act. Respond to security alarms and provide backup to other officers as needed, acting as the seniormost security officers within the division. Provide coverage to MLEO Level I duties as required. Utilizing IEE (Inform, Educate, Enforce) methodology to achieve compliance by the most efficient and effective means. Collecting and maintaining evidence relative to investigations, issuing Penalty Notices under the City’s Administrative Monetary Penalty System and preparing for and initiating prosecution for Provincial Offences matters as they relate to municipal enforcement and compliance.
Qualifications
Requires two (2) year college diploma in Law Enforcement or equivalent qualification in a recognized discipline and up to two years relative experience. Must have a valid Ontario Security Licence and a valid Ontario Drivers Licence. Must have intermediate level of word processing. Familiarity with municipal property database and ticketing software applications is preferred. Must possess good interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally or in written form. Must be capable of maintaining personal decorum and de-escalating third party hostility. Must be capable of performing the physical, mental, and visual demands of the position’s work tasks including regularly, crouching and kneeling, regular lifting up to 40lbs and occasional moving and lifting of up to 85lbs, standing or sitting for extended periods, traversing uneven or difficult terrain, and climbing. Must be able to work independently and as a team and have the flexibility to deal effectively with changing demands and cyclical workloads. Requires an individual who is able to work evenings and weekends when required. Must be able to perform in highly stressful environments. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current criminal reference check with vulnerable sector check.
