Fire Prevention Officer

Job Details

Conduct regular fire safety inspections, and specialized inspections upon request, for new construction and existing structures. Maintain reports and records, advise owners of necessary corrective measures to ensure premises meet or exceed the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code and other relevant legislation and ensure that an acceptable degree of life safety and property protection is achieved. Perform investigations and prepare documentation in support of the legal process. Participate in public education programs. 

Qualifications

Requires a post-secondary diploma in Fire Protection Technology and/or Certification to NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level 2 and NFPA 1035 Public Educator or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Certification to NFPA 1033, Fire Investigator would be an asset. Must have demonstrated experience in property inspections, codes, by-laws, acts and related regulations in addition to experience reading building permits, standards, and manufacturer’s installation manuals. Requires experience working with Public Fire & Life Safety Education Programs and working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code and other applicable legislation and regulations. The successful candidate will be able to communicate courteously and effectively both verbally and written, be productive in a team setting, possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be willing to upgrade education to achieve and maintain professional competency. Must have demonstrated commitment to maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable legislation and policy. Must be proficient in the use of MS Office, Internet, and fire department management software, etc.
