Administrative Intern

Job Details
The City of Peterborough is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Administrative Intern to promote key initiatives and support public education, website content review / amendments, event coordination, program development, and stakeholder communications. This is an excellent opportunity for a current university student enrolled in a Business Administration, Commerce, or Municipal Administration program to gain hands-on experience in municipal business operations.
This structured 15-week internship will provide exposure to a variety of departments, allow interns to contribute meaningfully to real-world projects, and offer mentorship and professional development opportunities.
In this position you will:
- Develop and implement marketing plans to support key initiatives
- Conduct research and develop public education materials
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of website and intranet content
- Draft pre-scripted messaging for major events / emergencies
- Aid with the coordination of events, including training sessions, meetings, workshops and special events
- Develop templates and checklists to aid with planning and facilitation of special events, risk management, and the implementation of business continuity and emergency plans
- Collaborate with internal teams across City departments and external community stakeholders
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint
- Proficiency with Canva and common social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Strong research, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to team projects
- Currently enrolled in a recognized university program in Business Administration, Commerce, Public Administration, or a related field
Hourly Rate
$17.60/hr
