Accounting Clerk

Job Details
Record and analyze the transactions in the City’s bank accounts. Provide finance and accounting support as well as reconciliation and analysis expertise. Review the City’s outgoing payments and match payments with supporting documentation. Responsible for vendor Masterfile creation and maintenance.
Generate daily bank reports, list and investigate debit and credit memos on the general bank account and summarize bank transactions. Liaise with City departments and banking institutions to provide information regarding all electronic payments including credit and debit transfers and electronic fund transfers (EFTs). Ensure upload of external banking files to SAP, review transactions in multiple clearing accounts and reconcile transactions. Prepare and post various monthly and periodic journal entries including banking activity. Analyze, reconcile, balance and maintain accounting records. Liaise with various financial services staff as well as Social Services staff to resolve and investigate discrepancies between recorded transactions and banking transactions. Initiate and follow-up with the City’s external banking representatives to obtain information on banking transactions.
Qualifications
Requires a three-year college diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline with up to 2 years’ previous and on-the-job experience. Experience in municipal finance, public sector accounting board principles and tangible capital asset accounting would be considered an asset. Must have advanced skills in MS Excel and intermediate skills in MS Office and other MS Office Suite programs. Must have well developed analytical aptitude to identify and resolve financial problems. Requires well developed organization and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Requires excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. Possesses a demonstrated commitment to customer service and continuous improvement. Position requires superior data entry and attention to detail.
