If you are a senior or a person with a physical disability, you may be eligible for a subsidy to help pay for private snow removal services. The program provides eligible homeowners with financial support to help remove snow from their driveways.
Pilot Snow Removal Subsidy Program
The application process will be open from October 15, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. to October 21, 2026 at 4:30 p.m.
On June 1, 2026, Council approved the Pilot Snow Removal Subsidy Program. If you are eligible, you can receive an annual fixed subsidy to help cover the cost of hiring a private snow removal service.
The application process will be open from October 15, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. to October 21, 2026. You can apply online, over the phone, or in person at City Hall.
There are 100 spaces available in the pilot program. If we receive more than 100 eligible applications, we will use a random selection process to select the 100 residents who will participate in the program. This process helps ensure all eligible applicants have an equal chance of being selected.
We have included the FAQs below to answer your questions about the program and eligibility.

Is there a deadline for submitting the application?
The deadline to apply for the program is October 21, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. A random selection process will be used to select 100 eligible applicants to participate in the program.
What is random selection and why are we using it?
We are using a random selection process because there are a limited number of spaces available in the pilot program. We want to make sure the opportunity is fair and equitable for all eligible residents who apply.
If we receive more eligible applications than the 100 available spaces, applicants will be randomly selected. This means each eligible applicant has an equal chance of being selected, regardless of when they apply during the application period.
What is the maximum grant an applicant can receive?
Applicants can receive up to $450 provided in two installments. One payment of up to $225 in November 2026 and a second payment of up to $225 in February 2027.
In order to receive the second installment and to qualify for the program in future years, receipts for snow removal must be provided.
How do I submit receipts for reimbursement?
If you are a qualifying applicant, keep track of how much you have paid someone to clear the snow from your property.
You will receive a notification when your receipts are due.
Receipts can be submitted in 4 ways:
Simply reply to the notification email and attach your receipts or completed reimbursement form to the email.

What will the City accept as proof of snow clearing?
A receipt for a one time seasonal fee or a receipt for each occurrence is preferred. If your snow-clearing service provider does not provide receipts, ensure that each occurrence of service is recorded on a reimbursement form including the date of service, the cost incurred and the service provider’s signature.
Who can I hire to clear snow from my driveway?
The City of Peterborough only provides the financial assistance for clearing snow from driveways, not the service. You are responsible for finding your own service provider. It could be a snow clearing company or it could be a neighbour who is willing to clear your driveway for a fee.
The first installment will be processed in November 2026, you may submit your second reimbursement form immediately; however, the City will not process the second reimbursement until February 2027.
Application process opens - mid October 2026
