Beach, Wading Pools and Splash Pads

Splash Pads
Splash pads offer a great place for kids to cool off and play on a summer day. There are seven splash pads in the City that include interactive elements like water jellies, spray tunnels, tipping pots and water willows.
From May to September, splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Supervised Beach
There is one supervised public beach in the City of Peterborough: Beavermead Beach (2011 Ashburnham Drive). Lifeguards supervise daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from the last week of June to the end of August.
Beavermead Beach offers an accessibility mat to provide a walkway across the sand into water.
Wading Pools
We have two supervised wading pools in our community. The wading pools are small, shallow pools for young children up to about eight years old.
From June 28 until the end of August, there is daily lifeguard supervision from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Adult supervision and accompaniment is required for children at the wading pools.
Wading pools are located at Chelsea Gardens (Southlawn Drive and Severn Road), and John Taylor Memorial Park (McKellar and St. Catherine streets).
Safety, Rules and Guidelines
Plan ahead and be safe when attending the local beach, splash pads, wading pools and other recreational areas.
- Adult supervision required: Children should be accompanied by a supervising adult at city splash pads, beach and wading pools. Note that lifeguard supervision is not provided at splash pads.
- Parking: Follow all parking restrictions in the area. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, the beach is at capacity. Do not park on the roadway.
- Stay hydrated: Pack your reusable water bottle and be sure to dispose of any waste appropriately
- Sun safety: Bring along sunscreen and bug spray.
- Share the air and keep our public spaces smoke-free: The Smoke-Free Ontario Act and the Peterborough Smoking Bylaw, protect people from outdoor exposure to second hand smoke in public spaces including parks, playgrounds, beaches, and sports fields. Violations can be reported to Peterborough Public Health or by phone 705-743-1000.
- Water quality monitoring: Peterborough Public Health monitors the water quality at the public beach. This information is available on the Peterborough Public Health website. Flags and signage indicating the status of water quality are also placed at the beach when lifeguards are present.
