Youth Transit Pass Pilot Program
In September 2025 Council approved a Youth Transit Pass Program, as part the City's Transportation Master Plan. Year One of the Youth Transit Pass will be a Pilot Year with a phased rollout to youth ages 13 to 18 years old.

How do I register?
You can register using our online application form. You will need parent consent and if you are in Secondary School, a copy of your school time table or student card.
How much does the pass cost?
Your Youth Transit Pass is completely free if you are between the ages of 13 and 18.
Where do I get my Youth Transit Pass?
Passes will be distributed during your school Transit orientation session if you are in Grade 7 or 8.
If you are in secondary school, you can get your Youth Transit Pass by mail or in person (at the Peterborough Transit Terminal, 190 Simcoe St.).
Your school time table or student card will be required to get your Youth Transit pass in person.
When can I use my Transit Youth Pass
Your Youth Transit Pass will become active in September 2026. If you are in grade 7 or 8, your pass will become active once you complete your orientation.
You can ride the bus for free:
- Monday to Friday after 4 p.m.
- Weekends
- Statutory holidays
- Summer vacation
- Winter Break
- March Break
Your Youth Transit Pass will expire in August 2027 and you will need to renew your pass.
Can I use it any time of day during the summer?
Yes. During summer vacation, you can use your Youth Transit Pass at any time of day, including weekdays before 4 p.m.
Why is this pass only for 13 to 18 year-olds?
The Youth Transit Pass is designed to help you become comfortable using public transit, develop lifelong transit habits, and stay better connected to your community through transportation.
I am homeschooled do I qualify?
Yes, any youth between the age of 13-18 qualify for a Youth Transit Pass.
Where can you travel with your Youth Transit Pass?
Your Youth Transit Pass is valid only on services operated by Peterborough Transit.
You can use your pass to travel throughout Peterborough and access recreation centres, outdoor courts and fields, splash pads, parks and beaches, library branches, as well as employment and educational opportunities.
Can a parent or sibling ride for free with your pass?
No. Your Youth Transit Pass is for your use only. Anyone traveling with you must pay the applicable fare.
If your pass is used fraudulently or reproduced illegally, it may be confiscated by Peterborough Transit.
What happens if you lose or damage your Youth Transit Pass?
If you lose your pass or it is damaged, you must notify Peterborough Transit and pay a $5 replacement fee before a new card will be issued.
Can your Youth Transit Pass be taken away?
