Celebrate Peterborough’s Built Heritage this Month through Two Annual Events

Peterborough, ON – Two annual events celebrating Peterborough’s heritage buildings and cultural landmarks will take place this September.  

Doors Open Peterborough 

Doors Open Peterborough, presented in partnership with Ontario Heritage Trust and the Peterborough and Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Twelve sites and two walking tours are featured at this year’s event. All locations and walking tours are free to attend.  

Visitors can plan their Doors Open Peterborough experience using the interactive Story Map available at peterborough.ca/DoorsOpen.  

Annual Peterborough Heritage Hunt  

Put your knowledge of Peterborough’s architecture and heritage features to the test during the City of Peterborough’s annual Heritage Hunt.  

This year’s hunt will take place on Hunter Street from Rogers Street to Reid Street.  

The Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee has been organizing the Heritage Hunt since 1983. The Hunt involves identifying 34 architectural details on buildings in a defined area of the city. All details are visible from the sidewalk and both sides of the street are in play.  

Prizes will be awarded for the correct identification of the most architectural elements on the clue sheet. This year, there are three bonus trivia questions for extra points. 

A fillable, mobile-friendly form, including a map of the Heritage Hunt area where all the architectural details can be found, is available at peterborough.ca/HeritageHunt  

Booklets can also be picked up at the following locations during regular operating hours: 

  • Service Peterborough in City Hall, 500 George St. N. 

  • Peterborough Museum & Archives, 300 Hunter St. E. 

  • Peterborough Visitor Centre, 353 Hunter St. E. 

  • Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer St. N. 

  • Art Gallery of Peterborough, 250 Crescent St.  

Completed booklets can be dropped off at Service Peterborough. 

The hunt closes on Tuesday, October 6. Winners will be contacted by City staff.
