Rehabilitation work along Trent-Severn Waterway
Starting in 2026, Parks Canada is undertaking infrastructure upgrades along the canal corridor from Lock 20 to McFarlane Street Bridge and the Maria Street Swing Bridge, part of the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site in Peterborough.
The work includes rehabilitation of the Peterborough Earth Dams, repairs at the Peterborough Lift Lock, and replacement of the Maria Street Swing Bridge.
The City is sharing this information to help direct residents and businesses to the appropriate source. Road closures and detour routes will be announced as work progresses.

Parks Canada will provide regular project updates through a dedicated project webpage and an email subscription list. A public information session is planned for March 2026, and more details, like the construction phases, timelines, and closures, will be shared shortly.
This work will ensure public safety and the responsible stewardship of the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site, helping ensure this historic canal corridor remains accessible for future generations.
