Peterborough Scores Big with TELUS Cup

Peterborough, ON – Community pride and championship hockey took centre ice in Peterborough as the 2026 TELUS Cup delivered an unforgettable week of competition and celebration.

Taking place at the Memorial Centre from April 20 to April 26, the TELUS Cup highlighted the City’s reputation as a premier destination for sport tourism and major events while giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience high-calibre hockey on a national stage.

During the seven-day tournament approximately 17,300 fans packed the stands at the Memorial Centre to cheer on 150 athletes from across Canada, including the city’s own Peterborough Jr. Petes.

One hundred and twenty volunteers helped direct fans, check tickets, chauffer athletes, assist game officials and greet guests each day.

Funding support for the TELUS Cup was provided by the Government of Ontario through the Sport Hosting Program and supported by the Peterborough Tourism program.

The City of Peterborough extends its thanks to Hockey Canada, volunteers, sponsors, event organizers, fans and community partners whose dedication and enthusiasm helped make the championship a resounding success.

Quotes

“This was an outstanding tournament for our community and for hockey fans across Peterborough. We were proud to welcome teams, families and visitors from coast to coast and showcase everything our city has to offer. I had the opportunity to attend two games, and it was a pleasure to witness some of the finest junior hockey in Canada. Congratulations to the Peterborough Jr. Petes on a tremendous tournament and the heart they showed representing Peterborough, and congratulations to the Chevaliers de Lévis, winners of the 2026 TELUS Cup, on an incredible achievement.” - Mayor Jeff Leal

"The TELUS Cup was an opportunity for the Peterborough Jr. AAA U18 Petes to not only play on the national stage, but as the host team, prove that they belong among the other five championship teams from Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. This was an opportunity for our players to compete in a national championship, and the experience will be the highlight of their minor hockey careers. The Peterborough community embraced this event, and the strong attendance throughout the week reflects the city’s enthusiasm and support for elite AAA U18 hockey.” - Walter DiClemente, Peterborough Minor Hockey Association.

“On behalf of Hockey Canada’s on-site events team, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to the City of Peterborough, Tourism Peterborough, the Peterborough Petes and the Host Organizing Committee (HOC) for their efforts over the last year, and the last ten days. The road to get to gold medal day started well over a year ago and the collaboration between all the groups involved has provided hockey fans in Peterborough with an incredible ten-day hockey experience.

“From the moment we arrived on site, we were treated exceptionally well. A tip of the cap goes to the HOC and their exceptional group of volunteers. From the fleet of drivers, medical, venue staff, media services, team services, ushers, ticket takers, security and everything in between, everyone has been incredibly friendly, welcoming and willing to lend a hand no matter how big or small the task.” - Branden Crowe, Communications Coordinator with Hockey Canada.
