Parks Canada to Perform Annual Maintenance on Maria Street Swing Bridge
Peterborough, ON – Parks Canada will be completing annual spring maintenance on the Maria Street Swing Bridge. Temporary daily closures will be in effect during the work.
The Maria Street Swing Bridge will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., starting on Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24. During these hours, the bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Outside of these times, the bridge will remain open and accessible to all traffic.
The temporary daily closures are required to safely complete routine, planned work led by Parks Canada at the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site, including:
-
Annual spring maintenance, such as bridge cleaning and routine inspections to ensure continued safe use;
-
Additional surveying and detailed inspections to support the design and construction of the future replacement bridge;
-
Minor repairs and maintenance as identified during inspections.
Detour routes and closure signage will be clearly posted. Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure periods.
Peterborough Transit Route 7 Lansdowne will be affected during the closures. Route 7 will detour around the Maria Street bridge during the daily closures, routing as Route 7A travelling via Hunter Street, the Lift Lock Tunnel and Ashburnham Drive between Rogers Street and Maria Street. Customers are asked to use the stop at Hunter and Rogers streets.
The City of Peterborough and Parks Canada thank residents for their patience and cooperation. This work is part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe, reliable infrastructure and to support the long-term future of the Trent–Severn Waterway.
