May is South Asian Heritage Month: Statement by Mayor Jeff Leal

Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement celebrating South Asian Heritage Month in the City of Peterborough:

“The City of Peterborough is proud recognize the culture, history, and countless contributions of South Asian communities to our city, province and country during South Asian Heritage Month.

"South Asian Canadians, whose roots span countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives, have played a key role in shaping our community. Through entrepreneurship, education, public service, healthcare, the arts, and civic engagement, members of the South Asian diaspora have helped build a more inclusive, diverse, and dynamic Peterborough.

"May is a time to honour those contributions, while also celebrating the richness of South Asian culture. On behalf of City Council, I extend heartfelt gratitude to the South Asian community of Peterborough. Your contributions strengthen the fabric of our city every day. We are proud to stand with you in celebration, reflection, and unity during South Asian Heritage Month."
