Celebrate the Summer Launch of the Expanded Skatepark
Peterborough, ON – Celebrate the summer launch of the expanded skatepark with a day of skateboarding demonstrations, lessons and music at Bonnerworth Park, 560 McDonnel St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.
The celebration kicks off with an open skate session. Residents can find out about the skatepark’s new features and learn more about the vision and design behind the park, including the design elements inspired by the Peterborough Lift Lock.
The Lions Club is hosting a fundraising barbecue beginning at noon. All funds raised will go toward new equipment for the enhanced playground at Kawartha Heights Park.
Coy’s School of Skate will be on site offering tips and instruction for anyone looking to sharpen their skills from noon to 1 p.m. This session is free and open to everyone.
At 1 p.m., the 66 Thieves Skate Team will take over the park for a high-energy demonstration, showing off the possibilities of the newly expanded space.
The action continues from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. with free skate and jam sessions open to everyone. Skaters of all skill levels are welcome to participate, with chances to win prizes for best tricks on select obstacles. Giveaways have been generously provided by 66 Thieves, Flavour Fashion, and Drop-in Skateparks.
Information will also be available regarding the City of Peterborough’s new skateboarding summer day camp, run in partnership with the Peterborough Skateboard Coalition. Details about the skatepark day camp and other camp programs can also be found online at peterborough.ca/camps.
