Celebrate Canada Day with the City of Peterborough

Peterborough, ON – Celebrate Canada Day with the City of Peterborough! 

Events are taking place on Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1.  

The fun begins before sunset on Tuesday, June 30, with the second annual Canada Day Movie Night at Quaker Foods City Square, 215 Charlotte St.  

Movie lovers were asked to vote for their preferred film for the evening, and Gnomeo and Juliet emerged as the clear winner. 

The Canada Day Movie Night begins at 7:30 p.m. Snacks are being provided by Quaker Foods, and a live band will play before the movie begins at dusk. Residents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and a blanket. Don’t forget to grab a free bag of popcorn and visit the s’mores station! 

The ReFrame Film Festival will be screening a short film beginning at about 9:15 p.m. Gnomeo and Juliet will begin at approximately 9:35 p.m.  

Canada Day events begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, outside City Hall, 500 George St. N. Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes with a Canadian theme and participate in the Bike Decorating Contest, taking place in front of City Hall following opening remarks. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Residents are welcome to cheer on participants as they roll, stroll and celebrate as the parade travels south along George Street.  

Canada Day celebrations continue in Del Crary Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

At the park the City will be serving up Canada Day cake, donated by Morello’s Your Independent Grocer. Residents are welcome to enjoy a complimentary slice and explore the food, beverage and arts and crafts vendors who will be in the park throughout the day, along with multiple community organizations offering fun activities for everyone.  

Local performers will be centre stage at Del Crary Park thanks to a new collaboration between the City and Musicfest. The first performance begins at 1 p.m.

Musicfest begins at 8 p.m., with a performance by Neon Nostalgic. The sky will light up with fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m. following the performance.
