Canada and Peterborough invest in Little Lake Loop

Peterborough, Ontario, September 29, 2026 — A new segment along the Little Lake Loop will be completed thanks to a joint investment of more than $7.5 million to help complete the 4.46-kilometre multi-use trail.
Emma Harrison, Member of Parliament for Peterborough, joined His Worship Jeff Leal, Mayor of the City of Peterborough, to announce the investment through the Active Transportation Fund.
As a part of the Little Lake Master Plan, the Little Lake Loop is a critical part of Peterborough’s cycling and pedestrian network and helps to connect residents and visitors to businesses, parks and major tourism destinations. The Little Lake Loop is currently 2.34 kilometres long and this project will extend it by another 1.15 kilometres along Crescent Street and Haggart Street.
The design of this trail segment will include 250 metres of lakeside pedestrian paths, 600 metres of two-way cycle tracks, 860 metres of sidewalk, and 350 metres of multi-use paths and a Woonerf, or shared streetscape. Additionally, landscaping, plantings, shade structures and seating areas will make a more welcoming environment for users of all ages.

- The federal government is investing $3,914,203 through the Active Transportation Fund
(ATF). The City of Peterborough is providing $2,534,469 and the Survivors Abreast
Peterborough Dragon Boat Team are donating $75,000. - These investments build on another Active Transportation Fund investment announced
in 2023 that will improve Peterborough’s Rotary Greenway Trail. - The ATF supports projects that build new and expanded networks of pathways,
sidewalks, bike lanes and trails to support affordable, greener, and healthier options for
Canadians to access their communities by walking, cycling, and through the use of
human-powered or hybrid mobility aids such as wheelchairs, scooters, e-bikes,
rollerblades, snowshoes, cross-country skis, and more. - A minimum of 10% of ATF’s funding is allocated to projects that benefit Indigenous
populations and communities. - The ATF supports the National Active Transportation Strategy, the country’s first
strategic approach for promoting active transportation and its benefits. It uses data driven
and evidence-based investments to build new and expanded active transportation
networks, while supporting equitable and sustainable travel options. - The federal government also launched the Active Transportation Online Hub. This

policies, success stories on projects across Canada, and information on the federal
government’s active transportation investments. - The Government of Canada is taking concrete actions to strengthen the economy by
