Project Status Update: The City has revised the road rehabilitation method from placement of Cold-In-Place Recycling with Expanded Asphalt Mix (CIREAM) to Full Depth Reclamation with Expanded Asphalt (FDA EA) due to unforeseen circumstances. However, it should be noted that this revision will benefit the roadway's life cycle as it is a more resilient rehabilitation method.

Scope of work:

The scope of work includes the replacement of existing maintenance hole frames and covers and grates, adjustment and installation of valve boxes, minor roadside ditch improvements, select culvert replacements, pulverizing of the existing asphalt roadway, placement of Cold In-Place Recycling with Expanded Asphalt Mix (CIREAM), application of emulsified asphalt tack coat, placement of surface asphalt pavement, placement of granular shoulders and application of pavement markings along Wallace Point Road and Neal Drive.

The City of Peterborough awarded the above noted project to Henderson Construction. 

Proposed Pedestrian Route

Given the proximity of the project to Immaculate Conception C.E.S., particular consideration has been given to maintaining a safe and practical pedestrian route around the construction area.

The recommended pedestrian route from the west side of Mark to the east side of Rogers Street is as follows:

• Pedestrians approaching from the west side of Mark Street should proceed north/south as appropriate to the designated pedestrian crossing at the Mark Street/Robinson Street intersection.
• Pedestrians should use the designated crossing to cross Robinson Street and access the east side of Mark Street.
• From there, pedestrians should proceed north along the east side of Mark Street toward Hunter Street East.
• Upon reaching Hunter Street East, pedestrians can continue across Rogers Street and head south along the east side of Rogers Street.
• The opposite of the above, is suggested for access from the east side of Rogers Street to the west side of Mark Street.
• Pedestrians should follow this suggested route and remain outside the active construction area.

This route is being suggested to provide pedestrians, including students and families travelling to and from the school, with a clear route that avoids travelling through the Robinson Street construction limits.

The City will continue to monitor pedestrian conditions throughout the project and will adjust the pedestrian routing, signage, or traffic control measures as required to accommodate changing construction conditions. All temporary traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented in accordance with the applicable requirements of OTM Book 7.

Scope of work:

Status Update: 

The Contractor will be implementing the next stage of traffic control associated with the Lansdowne Street West Reconstruction project beginning Monday, September 28, 2026, pending that weather delays are not encountered. The approved road occupancy permit is in effect through October 30, 2026.

During this stage, the following turn restrictions will be in place at the Lansdowne Street West/Kawartha Heights Boulevard/Spillsbury Drive intersection:

• Southbound Kawartha Heights Boulevard: no through or left-turn movements; traffic will be required to turn right onto westbound Lansdowne Street West.
• Northbound Spillsbury Drive: no through or left-turn movements; traffic will be required to turn right onto eastbound Lansdowne Street West.
• Lansdowne Street West: left turns onto Kawartha Heights Boulevard and Spillsbury Drive will be restricted.

Posted detour routes will direct affected traffic around the intersection, which are included alongside the attached traffic staging plans provided to assist with school access and transportation planning.

Traffic will continue to be maintained along Lansdowne Street West; however, motorists should expect localized restrictions and minor delays while the work is underway.

The primary focus of the 2026 work is the installation of a new watermain at the intersection, while the full reconstruction of the intersection is currently scheduled for 2027.

The City of Peterborough awarded the above noted project to Dufferin Construction Company

Scope of work:

The scope of work generally includes; replacements of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermain, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, road granular base and the asphalt road structure, traffic signals, streetlights, landscaping, tree plantings, pavement markings, installation of multi-use trails, and regulatory signage as part of a full scope road reconstruction. The reconstruction will also include upgrades to the Spillsbury Drive, Kawartha Heights Boulevard and Lansdowne Street West intersections, and the installation of new traffic signals at Lansdowne Street West and Village Crescent.

Lane Reductions and Traffic Impacts:

To facilitate these works the Contractor will be reducing Lansdowne Street West two lanes, one dedicated eastbound lane and one westbound lane.  To accommodate work on Spillsbury Drive and Kawartha Heights Boulevard, traffic will be reduced to two lanes, with one dedicated lane maintained in each direction (northbound and southbound).

Access for local traffic and businesses will be maintained at all times during traffic flagging operations, lane shifts, lane reductions, etc. It is expected that local traffic may experience delays within the construction limits.
