Spring Into the Season with Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services

March and April bring longer days, fresh energy, and new opportunities to get active, get creative, and connect with our community. As winter gives way to spring, our recreation centres, pools, and programs are ready to help you shake off the chill and embrace the season with movement, learning, and fun for all ages.

Refresh your routine with a membership to our fully equipped fitness centres, drop-in activities, and group fitness classes, or dive into swimming lessons and family programs designed to keep everyone engaged. Looking to spark your creativity? Explore our Art Gallery, discover local history and hands-on experiences at our Museum on the hill, or take part in creative workshops and cultural events that celebrate the stories and talents of our community.

Spring is a time of renewal and discovery — and there’s no better place to experience it than right here with us. Service Disruptions:

Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre Pools: Maintenance will commence on March 31st, access to the pool facility will not be available until its re-open on April 4th. 

Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre: There may be disruptions to morning classes during the week of March 16-20 due to March Break Day Camps, with alternate locations secured.

Subsidy Opportunities

Membership Subsidy Who is Eligible? Our subsidized membership rates are available to eligible participants based on household income. We welcome applications from both City and County residents who meet the criteria. 

Recreation Program Subsidy is now open for applications. You can apply for multiple programs at once, for one or more participants. The maximum subsidy per person is $100 or $200 per year depending on the low-income cut-off per household. Applicants are required to be residents within the City of Peterborough and must be applying for programs within the city limits of Peterborough. Child Memberships  

Child memberships provide early registration and access to programming including drop-in activities and children’s recreational programming. No discounts on swimming lessons, day camps or martial arts courses.  Registered programs and stop n’ play service at discounted rates. Please note, children 12+ will have access to the fitness floor with a Youth Get Started orientation.

  • Winter session ends April 5.

Fitness

Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services continues to offer a variety of drop-in classes at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre and many other City facilities. Did you know that you don't have to be a member of the Wellness Centre to participate? Anyone can choose to register into a class that best meets their unique needs. Types of classes include:

In partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Peterborough, we are hosting a day of fun, free activities and mentorship. If you are someone who likes working with and spending time alongside children and youth, please consider joining us for this day. We will offer a mix of active, creative and competitive programs to engage our bodies and minds, while fostering positive relationship-building in this intergenerational day of programming. We will also be hosting a visit from Sunshine Therapy Dogs! Lunch will be provided for free, catered by That's a Wrap Catering Co. Coffee & Tea will also be served.

Indoor Sport:

Please visit our online ice and floor availability for dates and times. To submit your sport request, please fill out the sport facility request form.

There are two ice pads at Miskin Law Community Complex, Healthy Planet Arena and the Kinsmen Civic Centre. The Peterborough Memorial Centre has one ice pad.

Turf fields will open mid to late April, weather permitting. Outdoor facilities will open by the May long weekend.

Riverview Park & Zoo

Did you know Riverview Park and Zoo is open 365 days a year from 8:30 a.m. to dusk. Gift Shop/Guest Services will be open the week of March Break from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Riverview Park and Zoo is located at 1300 Water Street North in Peterborough, Ontario, along the Otonabee River. Aquatics

Looking for something exciting to do with your friends and family? Drop-in to our country-themed Fun Swim on Saturday, April 4th, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Decorated pool facility, photo backdrop, craft activity and draw! Spring Session Information and Registration:

Spring swimming lessons will be viewable on March 2nd.

Registration will take place online and in-person on the following days:

Member Registration: Tuesday March 24th at 7am online.

Members are defined as those who currently pay for a monthly or annual membership to access programs and services at the Centre.

Public Registration: Wednesday March 25th at 7 am online.

Public registration includes all current swim lesson participants who are not paying for membership at the Centre.

For the Spring 2026 Session, we are adding two new swim levels called Swimmer Fundamentals and Patrol Fundamentals to better match each swimmer’s age, ability and confidence in the water. These levels will ensure a smother progression to help every swimmer reach their full potential.

Child & Family

Child & Family Winter programming is wrapping up and Spring opportunities are set to go! Recreational activities, programs, and events for various ages including dance, judo, arts, gym & swim, birthday parties, jiu jitsu, science, preschool, and much more are available at a pro-rated fee for the remainder of the winter term and registration for spring will offer new options, and of course the same of what you love! For more information and to register for these great options for your household please visit Children and Family Programs.

Summer Leadership Opportunities for Youth 2026 – Discover Your Potential

PA Day Camps at the PSWC - Come for the fun, stay for the friends! 

Register for a P.A Day Camp

These day camps will keep you busy during the school holidays! We include games and activities, crafts, indoor and outdoor play, themes, a daily recreational swim, and much, much more. Children are required to bring indoor running shoes, a nut-sensitive lunch including snacks and a refillable water bottle, swim gear, as well as outdoor weather-appropriate clothing depending upon the season's climate during the week. These camp dates provide daily care between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.; structured programming occurs between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Ages 4 to 11 years. Dance for Youth 

These recreational dance programs offer a wide range of opportunities for children and youth - try them all! Dance in your own groove from the start of each class to the end! 

  • Pre-Dance - Classes offered for children between the ages of 3 & 5 years, explore classes including Pre-Ballet, Pre-Hip Hop, and Pre-Dance Medley that includes content from all of our classes. 
  • Learn to Dance - Classes offered for children between the ages of 6 & 12 years, choose options like Jazz, Ballet, HipHop, and Dance Medley.

Babysitter Course

Register for Babysitter Course

The babysitter training course is a great opportunity for youth ages 11-15 to gain knowledge and confidence in common situations that may arise while children are under the care of the babysitter. The program enables the participants to demonstrate their capabilities and maturity by completing the course under the direction of the instructor. For successful completion of the course, participants are required to attend 75% of the classes and will then be awarded a certificate. Workbook and certificates of participation are included in the cost of the program.

Carnivorous Dinosaurs Exhibition

We invite you to visit this blockbuster exhibit where you will come face-to-face with the most fearsome predators to ever walk the earth.

The Big History Show – A Puppet Show with Glen Caradus, March 22 @ 2 pm

Join us as we say farewell to the Carnivorous Dinosaurs exhibit with The Big History Show, an entertaining puppet adventure with Glen Caradus! Hop into the time machine as Glen travels through geological eras, coming face to face with fossils from the distant past. Admission is by a suggested donation of $20 per family group.

March Break: Roar and Explore at the PMA – March 16 to 20

Bring your curiosity and sense of adventure to the Peterborough Museum & Archives this March Break! From Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, enjoy special dinosaur-themed activities available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in our Education Classroom. Families can dig into hands-on crafts, explore paleontology, and discover more about these fascinating prehistoric creatures.  Admission is by a suggested donation of $20 per group.

“We Wear Many Hats” - Exhibition Opening April 16, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

You’re invited to attend the grand opening event for “We Wear Many Hats”, an exhibit in partnership with Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship Program. Discover a hat’s ability to subtly communicate belonging while exploring the evolving role hats have played in Peterborough society.

“We Wear Many Hats” will be on display April 4 to June 14, 2026 – visitors of all ages are encouraged to visit.

Bringing TIFF to You Winter/Spring Film Series

Bringing TIFF to You

PMA Bringing TIFF to You is a partnership with the Peterborough Museum & Archives, the Toronto International Film Festival Circuit Group, and Galaxy Cinemas Peterborough, providing filmgoers with the opportunity to experience Canadian and International film on the big screen. 

All films start at 6 p.m. Rush tickets are available 15 minutes before each screening at our PMA booth located in the Galaxy lobby. We accept debit or credit card (cash is not accepted). Individual tickets are $20 plus HST (for a total of $22.60)

From summer adventures to P.A. Days and the occasional weekend program, our themed camps make school breaks something to look forward to. Each camp offers a fresh theme to spark curiosity and inspire young explorers. Led by trained educators, our programs are fun, engaging, and designed to support all child’s unique interests and needs. Upcoming program offerings include:

Embark on a journey of exploration, discovery, and imagination as you connect with the past through our hands-on educational programs! Teachers and community groups can schedule their class to participate in an assortment of programs for all ages. Each program addresses specific Ontario Curriculum requirements and offers memorable learning opportunities. 

Toddler Tuesday

Little ones and their caregivers are welcome to join us Tuesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for a drop-in, tot-friendly Museum visit! This unstructured program allows children to play their way through the galleries, making new friends along the way. Admission is by a $10 suggested donation per family or group.
