Welcome to the July & August Edition of the Recreation and Parks Newsletter!
Summer is here—and it's time to dive into fun! Cool off at one of our splash pads, head to the beach, or explore the city’s beautiful parks and trails. Whether you’re enrolled in summer camp, learning to swim, or just looking for a place to unwind, we’ve got you covered.
Stay active in our fully equipped fitness centres, discover new programs, and mark your calendar for some exciting community events happening throughout the season. From outdoor adventures to refreshing ways to beat the heat, there’s something for everyone this summer!
Canada Day at Confederation and Millennium Park - July 1, 2025
Roll, Stroll and Celebrate is a free, family-friendly event hosted by the City of Peterborough. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony and bike contest at City Hall, followed by a procession along George Street North to Millennium Park. Family friendly activities will take place at Millennium Park from noon to 6 p.m.
Activities at Millennium Park will include:
- Live performances on the main stage
- Arts and crafts vendors
- Food and beverage vendors
- Cultural displays and performances
- Community outreach booths
- Family-friendly games and interactive programming
This event promotes community pride, inclusion, and cultural celebration, and is designed to be accessible for all ages and abilities. No high-risk activities such as axe throwing are planned.
- Peterborough & District Farmer's Market - Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (southwest parking lot).
- Peterborough Regional Farmers Network Market - Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Quaker Food City Square.
- Peterborough Musicfest - Wednesday and Saturday nights from June 28 to August 16 at Del Crary Park.
- Peterborough Folk Festival – August 14 to 17 at Nicholls Oval.

Adult Leisure & Member Fitness
The McDonnel Street Community Centre (MSCC) at 577 McDonnel Street continues to be the hub for Adult Leisure programs for Recreation and Parks Services. Summer is a great time to recharge the batteries, so why not take advantage of trying something new?
Painting Workshops
Paint along, step-by-step in our acrylic paint workshops. We’ll supply everything you need. Just register online for the time that works best for you and come sling some paint with us!
In July, we are painting the “Alleyway Afternoon”. In August, we are painting “Stories in Silhouette”. We will also be offering a multi-day workshop in July where participants will learn the techniques used to understand and utilize perspective.
Drop-In Programs
Most drop-in programs at MSCC cost $3.50 per visit – exact change is appreciated. This summer, you can look forward to:
- Tuesday morning drop-in Shuffleboard from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Wednesday morning drop-in Zumba Gold from 9 to 9:45 a.m. – free
- Wednesday drop-in Warm Up and Weights from 10 to 10:45 a.m. – free

Drop-in Fitness Programs (Land & Aqua)
Recreation and Parks Services continues to offer a variety of drop-in classes for members of the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre. However, did you know that you don’t have to be a member to participate? Anyone can choose a class to register into that best meets their unique interests. By registering, you will have access to that class for the full summer season! Classes include:
- HIIT & Strength Training
- Yoga, Pilates & Mobility
- Cardio Endurance
- Combo & Gentle Aqua Fitness
- Spin, Circuit, and more!
Members can drop in when it fits your schedule and enjoy fun, energizing workouts led by passionate instructors in a welcoming, no-pressure environment. It’s the perfect way to stay active, try something new, and feel your best this season.
Is there a class you would like to see added to the schedule? Don’t hesitate to provide feedback to our fitness instructors. We love hearing about new trends in fitness that participants are eager to try!

- Drop-in Fitness classes will not be offered on:
- Tuesday, July 1 (Canada Day);
- Monday, August 4 (Civic Holiday); and
- Monday, September 1 (Labour Day)
Instructors and class locations may change without notice. We will do our best to inform participants the week prior of any anticipated or scheduled changes. For the most up-to-date drop-in fitness schedules, please visit: Recreation Programs, scroll to the section titled “Recreation Drop-in Activities”, click the schedule you want to view (i.e. “Aquatic Fitness Drop-in” or “Land Fitness Drop-in”). Any cancelled classes will be removed from the schedule, and any room relocations will be indicated in the class name.
Memberships and Discount Opportunities
The Recreation and Parks Services Division currently offers a number of membership options at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.

Membership Subsidy - Who is Eligible? Our subsidized membership rates are available to eligible participants based on household income. We welcome applications from both City and County residents who meet the criteria.
Recreation Program Subsidy is now open for applications. You can apply for multiple programs at once, for one or more participants. The maximum subsidy per person is $100 or $200 per year depending on the low-income cut-off per household. Applicants are required to be residents within the City of Peterborough and must be applying for programs within the city limits of Peterborough.

Recreation and Parks Services offer a number of meeting rooms, multipurpose rooms, banquet halls, ice, floor, field and court rentals at its many facilities. For more information, rates and locations please visit our website at Facility Booking and Permitting.
Outdoor Sport
The City permits the artificial turf fields at Fleming College, Holy Cross and Thomas A Secondary School. Please visit our online turf availability for dates and times.
To book a diamond, field (including artificial turf) or court, please fill out the sport facility request form.
Fall league requests are due by August 1, 2025.
Indoor Sport
Book now for summer ice and floor. Please visit our online ice and floor availability for dates and times. To submit your sport request, please fill out the sport facility request form.
The two ice pads at Miskin Law Community Complex (Russell Toyota pad and CHE pad) will be operating until mid August. M.L.C.C. will then enter a two week maintenance period and will reopen in September. There are two floor pads in at the Healthy Planet Arena until mid August when ice returns. Two floor pads are in at the Kinsmen Civic Centre until ice returns in September. The Peterborough Memorial Centre has floor time available until ice returns in September.
General availability for 2025-26 Fall/Winter ice season opens mid-August.

Peterborough Century 21 Lakers Season
The Lakers Season has officially started with the home opener on May 22 where Six Nations was defeated with a 7-6 win. Single tickets are now on-sale for all games. Home games take place on Thursdays at 8 p.m. Please view their season schedule for more details.
Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Tournament, August 15 to 17, 2025
The WMSL Provincial Championship brings together 10 teams from across Ontario for a three-day tournament with competitive senior competition to crown the provincial champions. The tournament will be held at the Peterborough Memorial Centre and the Kinsmen Civic Centre. Over three days, teams will compete in round-robin play, followed by elimination rounds to determine the champion! Tickets for this event will be complimentary.
Bryan Adams Roll with the Punches Tour with special guest The Sheepdogs, October 7, 2025 at 7:30 p.m.
Bryan Adams has announced that he is hitting the road this fall with his massive “Roll with the Punches” North America 2025 tour, his biggest tour in years. Ticket prices vary.
Sarah McLachlan Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Tour with special guest Tiny Habits, November 9, 2025 at 7:30 p.m.
Celebrating three decades since the release of her multi-platinum third album, Grammy and Juno-award winning artist Sarah McLachlan will be on tour across Canada! $1 per ticket will be donated to the non-profit Sarah McLachlan School of Music, which provides high-quality music education and mentorship free to children and youth facing barriers to access. Ticket prices vary.
2026 TELUS Cup, April 20 to 26, 2026
Peterborough has been selected as the host community for the 2026 TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Under-18 Men’s Club Championship. The national tournament will take place at the Peterborough Memorial Centre and will feature six of the top U18 men’s teams from across the country, including the host Peterborough Minor Petes, who will make their TELUS Cup debut. Ticket prices vary and will be announced at a later date.

Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre

- The Centre will be open Monday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Annual Pool Closure from June 16 at 7 p.m. reopening July 2.
