As spring blossoms, the days grow longer and summer and the warmer weather are right around the corner, May and June bring the perfect time to explore, play and connect in our parks, trails, facilities, and programs. We’re excited to share a fresh season full of activities, events, and opportunities. We have bit of everything from family-friendly programs, fitness programs for all ages, to special events, there’s something for everyone to look forward to. Aquatics and Skate
Aquatic Summer Registration
We will be offering two different lesson formats, weekly and every day for two weeks, please be sure to read the dates correctly when registering. Register now for Summer Aquatics.
Learn to Inner Tube Water Polo and have a splash! This fast-paced sport combines the excitement of water polo with the added challenge of being seated in inflatable inner tubes. Two teams in the water will compete to score goals by passing and shooting a ball into the opposing team's net. This sport encourages teamwork, strategy, and quick reflexes, but also adds an element of balance as players must keep their tubes steady while moving and interacting with the ball. Program is designed for Youth ages 8-15 years of age.
Are you looking for advanced leadership opportunities and have your National Lifeguard and Lifesaving Instructor? Take the National Lifeguard Instructor Course so you can certify future leaders in drowning prevention and rescue response! Swim Lessons - Leadership - Advanced Courses.

Are your kids looking for some fun activities to take part in after school? Let them know about the Peterborough Youth Space where we've got FREE scheduled activities 4 days a week! Anyone aged 12 to18 years is welcome to this accessible, inclusive, judgement-free space. Many of the staff members are former participants and as such are passionate about providing a safe space for a good time.
Are your kids looking for some fun activities to take part in after school? Let them know about the Peterborough Youth Space where we've got FREE scheduled activities 4 days a week! Women's Adult Recreational Hockey League
This league will consist of four teams for weekly scrimmages that are non-contact.
- Sundays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 18 to August 10 at Miskin Law Community Complex.
Skating lessons
- Skating lessons will now be offered year-round at the new Miskin Law Community Complex.
- Watch for more details on our popular Skating Skills for Hockey program for children between the ages of 4 and 10.

Memberships and Discount Opportunities
The Recreation and Parks Services Division currently offers a number of membership options at the Sport & Wellness Centre.
Try one of our 30-day memberships with no commitment!
Recreation Program Subsidy is now open for applications. You can apply for multiple programs at once, for one or more participants. The maximum subsidy per person is $100 or $200 per year depending on the low-income cut-off per household. Applicants are required to be residents within the City of Peterborough and must be applying for programs within the city limits of Peterborough. Adult Leisure and Member Fitness
The McDonnel Street Community Centre (MSCC) at 577 McDonnel Street continues to be the hub for Adult Leisure programs for Recreation and Parks Services. Here’s what’s new for Spring 2025:
Community Care fitness classes
Two new classes are being offered by experienced instructors from Community Care. Come drop-in to these free classes and get your body moving!
- Zumba Gold - Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
- Warm Up and Weights - Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Lawn Bowling – Try It Lessons
Join instructors from the Peterborough Lawn Bowling Club as they share the foundations of Lawn Bowling with anyone from the community who is interested to learn more about this sport. This is a great introduction to anyone who might be interested in league pay throughout the summer. All lessons are free, but registration is required. Register now for the Try It Lessons!
Painting Workshops
Paint along, step-by-step in our acrylic paint workshops. We’ll supply everything you need. Just register for the time that works best for you and come sling some paint with us!
In May, we are painting the “Tree of Life” and June's painting is "Spontaneous Arrangement".
Drop-In Fitness Programs (Land and Aqua)
As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, there’s no better time to refresh your routine and get moving! Our spring Drop-In Fitness classes are here to help you shake off winter and boost your energy — no commitments, no stress.
Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned sweat-lover, we’ve got something for everyone!

Is there a class you would like to see added to the schedule? Don’t hesitate to provide feedback to our fitness instructors. We love hearing about new trends in fitness that participants are eager to try!

- Drop-in Fitness classes will not be offered on Monday, May 19 (Victoria Day)
- The Fitness Centre and Aerobics Studio at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre annual closure will take place from June 20 and reopen June 23, 2025.
- Instructors and class locations may change without notice. We will do our best to inform participants the week prior of any anticipated or scheduled changes. For the most up-to-date drop-in fitness schedules, please visit: Recreation Programs, scroll to the section titled “Recreation Drop-in Activities”, click the schedule you want to view (i.e. “Aquatic Fitness Drop-in” or “Land Fitness Drop-in”). Any cancelled classes will be removed from the schedule, and any room relocations will be indicated in the class name
- Drop-in Aqua Fitness classes conclude on Monday, June 16 as the pool will be shut down for two weeks for routine maintenance and cleaning.

Outdoor Sport
To book a diamond, field or court, please fill out the Sport Facility Request Form - Peterborough.
- Artificial turf fields are open and has availability.
- Tennis/Basketball courts will open on May 1
- Baseball diamonds will open on May 10
- Grass fields will open on May 20
- Beach volleyball courts will open on June 1
Park washrooms will open on the May long weekend.
Indoor Sport
Book now for Spring/Summer ice and floor! Please visit our online ice and floor availability for dates and times. To submit your request, please fill out the Sport Facility Request Form.
- Healthy Planet Arena and Kinsmen Civic Centre will have two floor pads available for the summer.
- Miskin Law Community Complex will have two ice pads available for the summer.
Public skates including family skates, 50+ skates are over for the season. Check back in mid-August for the 2025/2026 Fall and Winter season dates and times.
Private Events
Book now for your next meeting, party, or special event in one of our meeting rooms, pavilions or parks. To submit your request to host a private event, please fill out the Private Event Rental Request Form.
- Peterborough Farmer's Market - Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (southwest parking lot).
- Peterborough Regional Farmers Network Market - Wednesdays and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Quaker Food City Square.
- Kawartha Craft Beer Festival - June 6 to 8 at Del Crary Park
- Dragon Boat Festival - June 14 at Del Crary Park
- Peterborough Musicfest - Wednesdays and Saturday from June 28 to August 16 at Del Crary Park
Peterborough Memorial Centre - Upcoming Events
April was an event-filled month, and despite the ice storm, there were over 3600 attendees for the CANCAST Fishing and Tackle Show, 3100 attendees who had a fun, fun, fun time with the Beach Boys, and 1956 who participated in the I Heart Beer and Tacos Festival.

Lakers Season ticket renewals have begun! The home games will take place at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursdays at 8 p.m. from May 22 to July 24. Please view their season schedule for more details.
Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Tournament will take place from August 15 to 17, 2025. Tickets will be free! More information is coming soon!
