Yom HaShoah begins April 13, 2026

Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement in recognition of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day

“Today, we join communities in Canada and around the world in observing Yom HaShoah, a solemn day of remembrance for the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution.

"We honour the memory of those who were lost, and we stand with survivors, their families, and the Jewish community in remembering the profound impact of this tragedy.

"Yom HaShoah serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of hatred, antisemitism, and discrimination. It calls on all of us to reflect on our shared responsibility to stand against intolerance in all its forms and to uphold the values of dignity, respect, and inclusion. By remembering the past, we strengthen our resolve to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.

"May we continue to learn from history, honour the memories of those who were lost, and work together toward a more just and compassionate future.”
