World Refugee Day

Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement for World Refugee Day:

“On World Refugee Day, we take time to recognize the courage, strength and perseverance of millions of people around the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution or disaster.

"These individuals and families have faced unimaginable challenges, yet they continue to inspire us with their resilience and hope for a better future. In Peterborough, we have a proud history of helping to resettle some of the world’s most vulnerable people in an inclusive community that values diversity and understands the richness that newcomers, including refugees, bring to our social, cultural and economic life.

"Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with refugees and reaffirm our commitment to building a compassionate community where everyone has the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and at home.”
