Treaties Recognition Week: November 2-8
Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement on Treaties Recognition Week:
“Treaties Recognition Week is observed from November 2 to 8, 2025. Established in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, this week honours the historic treaties between Indigenous Nations and the provincial and federal governments, living agreements that continue to shape rights, responsibilities, and relationships.
“The City of Peterborough is located on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg peoples and is covered by Treaty 20 (1818) and the Williams Treaties (1923). Treaties Recognition Week invites Ontarians to learn about the treaties connected to the land where they live, to reflect on their ongoing significance, and to strengthen our collective commitment to respect, understanding, and meaningful reconciliation."
