Transgender Day of Remembrance 2025
Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement for the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which takes place November 20, 2025:
“Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause to honour the lives of transgender and gender-diverse people who have been lost to violence, discrimination and hatred. This day is a solemn reminder of the work we must continue to do to ensure that everyone can live safely, openly and with dignity.
"Peterborough is a community that values inclusion, compassion and respect. We stand with our transgender neighbours, friends, colleagues and family members as we reaffirm our commitment to creating a city where all people are welcomed and celebrated for who they are.
"As we reflect on the Transgender Day of Remembrance, let us also strengthen our resolve to speak out against transphobia, to support those facing discrimination, and to work together toward a future where every person can live free from fear. We honour their memories by building a safer and more inclusive community for all.”
