Temporary Emergency Overnight Shelter to Open on Carnegie Avenue

Peterborough, ON – The temporary emergency overnight shelter located at 161 Carnegie Avenue will be open overnight on Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7.  

The temporary overnight shelter will operate from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.  

Environment Canada has issued a cold weather warning for the region, with a low of –21C Friday night, with the windchill of –34C. Temperatures are forecasted to drop to –26C on Saturday night.  

Located in a former fire services building, the Carnegie Avenue location will add 40 overnight emergency shelter beds to the City of Peterborough’s current 127-bed emergency shelter system.  

Those in need of emergency shelter will  continue to first contact the regular emergency shelters and will be referred to the temporary shelter on Carnegie if a space is not available in the regular emergency shelters. Transportation will be provided from the regular emergency shelters to the temporary shelter if needed.

  • Trinity Community Centre, 360 Reid St., runs daytime and overnight drop-in programs, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., respectively.
