Temporary downtown patio spaces to be removed
Peterborough, ON – The City of Peterborough will start removing temporary downtown patio spaces beginning Monday, October 20, 2025 to prepare sidewalks and roads for winter snow clearing operations.
Restaurants and businesses that have temporary patios on city-owned lands including on sidewalks and in on-street parking next to their business should remove all patio furniture by the end of the day on Sunday, October 19.
The expanded patio spaces were installed in June 2025. During patio season Hunter Street West between George Street North and Aylmer Street was temporarily transformed into a one-lane, one-way street to add more patio and pedestrian space in the café district.
With the removal of the expanded patio areas, Hunter Street West will return to a two-lane, two-way street.
This was the sixth summer that the City put in place temporary changes to the downtown public spaces to allow for more patio and pedestrian space.
