Significant Weather Event Declaration Lifted March 11, 2026
Peterborough, ON - The Significant Weather Event declaration related to the significant snowfall in January and February has been lifted as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The declaration was initially issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, following a winter storm that brought significant snowfall to the region beginning Sunday, January 25, and continuing into the early morning hours of Monday, January 26.
Although the declaration was triggered by the initial snowfall, ongoing winter weather conditions and continued snow accumulation required the Significant Weather Event to remain in effect while crews continued snow clearing and removal operations. With temperatures now rising and conditions improving, winter maintenance operations are able to return to normal service levels.
Public Works crews were deployed throughout the past several weeks and worked continuously during this period to remove snow from roads, sidewalks, bike lanes and bus stops. Crews also addressed ongoing winter weather maintenance at locations requiring blower assistance or mechanical snow removal.
Under the Municipal Act, 2001 (O. Reg. 239/02), municipalities may declare a Significant Weather Event when severe weather conditions impact the maintenance of municipal roads, sidewalks and bike lanes.
