Persian Heritage Month - March 2026

City of Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement in recognition of Persian Heritage Month: 

"March is recognized as Persian Heritage Month in Ontario, a time to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of people of Persian heritage to our country, our province, and our local communities. 

"As recognized in Ontario’s Persian Heritage Month Act, 2021, this month honours generations of Ontarians of Persian descent who have helped shape the cultural, economic, social, and civic life of our communities. Rooted in one of the world’s oldest civilizations, Persian heritage reflects a legacy of innovation, artistic achievement, and enduring traditions that continue to enrich Canadian society. 

"In Peterborough, Persian Heritage Month is an opportunity to learn, to reflect, and to celebrate the diversity that strengthens our community. Occurring alongside Nowruz, the Persian New Year and a symbol of renewal and hope, this month reminds us of the shared values that unite us all."
