Ontario Upgrading Morrow Park Field in Peterborough

Peterborough— The Ontario government is investing $1 million to and upgrade Morrow Park in the City of
Peterborough. This investment is part of the province’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation
Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), a provincewide initiative that helps communities revitalize local facilities,
grow the economy and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.

“Our government is delivering on its promise to support local communities with a $1 million investment for
the Morrow Park upgrade. This project is vital for our residents, improving accessibility, extending the life
of this beloved facility, and providing a Premier/Level A diamond for everyone to enjoy,” said Dave Smith,
Member if Provincial Parliament for Peterborough-Kawartha. “I’m thrilled to see this important funding
come to our city, promoting active living and strengthening our community." MPP Smith added.

This project focuses on a significant upgrade to Morrow Park, aiming to elevate its status to Premier/Level
A. This comprehensive initiative is designed not only to extend the facility's overall lifespan but also to
enhance local programming opportunities and vastly improve accessibility features. These improvements
are directly aligned with meeting identified community needs, as detailed in a thorough Parks and Outdoor
Recreation Facilities Study, ensuring the upgraded diamond will serve the community effectively for years
to come.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Province of Ontario for this $1 million investment through the
Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “Morrow Park is a cherished
gathering place in our community, and these upgrades will ensure it remains a premier destination for sport,
recreation and community events for years to come. Enhancing accessibility, extending the life of the
facility, and supporting active living are all priorities for the City of Peterborough, and this funding helps us
move forward on all fronts. In particular, I would personally like to thank the Honourable Neil Lumsden,
the Minister of Sport with the Province of Ontario, for taking time during the August 2024 Association of
Municipalities of Ontario to listen to our delegation related to this particular project.”

“At a time when Ontario families are facing rising costs due to tariffs, our government is proud to support
organizations focused on delivering better services for people while breaking down barriers and creating
opportunities for children and young people,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “With investments in
infrastructure like this, we are protecting Ontario jobs, strengthening our communities and building a more
resilient and self-reliant economy.”

CSRIF is a key part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario workers, businesses and families by
unleashing the economy and getting more shovels in the ground, with a historic $200 billion investment to
build highways, hospitals, transit, schools and other critical infrastructure across the province.
