New Exhibit to Open at the Peterborough Museum and Archives

Peterborough, ON - A new temporary exhibition curated by students from Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship (MMC) post-graduate program opens at the Peterborough Museum and Archives, 300 Hunter St. E., on Saturday, April 4.

“We Wear Many Hats” explores the social and cultural significance of headwear, examining how hats subtly communicate identity, belonging, and social roles, while highlighting the evolving place of headwear in Peterborough’s history. Through objects, stories, and design, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how something as familiar as a hat can carry personal and collective meaning.

This temporary exhibit will be on display until June 14. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Museum and experience the students’ curatorial work firsthand.

An official opening featuring speeches and refreshments takes place Thursday, April 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend.

"We Wear Many Hats” is the culminating project of the MMC program, bringing together two semesters of research, planning, and hands-on exhibit development. Students worked collaboratively to design an engaging and accessible experience for visitors of all ages.

“It’s been such a great hands-on experience learning how to build an exhibit,” says Erin Ralph, a student enrolled in the program. “Every step of the project has been a valuable experience that I can’t wait to use in my future career. Plus, it’s lots of fun!”

Admission to the exhibit is by donation.
