National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women: December 6
Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement:
“On December 6, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. On this day in 1989, 14 young women were murdered at École Polytechnique in Montréal in an act of gender-based violence.
"Unacceptable gender-based violence continues to affect countless women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals. This day calls on all of us to stand together and speak out against violence and hatred.
"We reflect on the lives unjustly taken, honour all victims and recognize the needed work to end such violence to ensure that every person, regardless of gender, can live free from fear.
"By standing together, speaking out, acting with awareness and compassion, we can build a safer, more supportive community while working toward a future free from violence.”
