National AccessAbility Week - May 25 to 31, 2025

Mayor Jeff Leal has released the following statement for National AccessAbility Week, May 25-31

"National AccessAbility Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities and to reflect on the ongoing work required to build a truly inclusive and accessible community for all.

"Accessibility is about more than physical spaces. It’s about equal opportunity, full participation and respect for the dignity of every individual. In Peterborough, we are proud of the progress we’ve made through inclusive design, accessible infrastructure, and community-driven initiatives. From barrier-free public spaces to accessible transit and inclusive recreation, we continue to strive for a city where everyone belongs and everyone can thrive.

"This week also serves as a reminder that our work is not done. We must continue to listen, to learn, and to take meaningful action to remove barriers, both seen and unseen, that prevent full inclusion.

"To the advocates, organizations, and community members who champion accessibility every day: thank you. Your leadership is shaping a stronger, more compassionate Peterborough.

"Let us reaffirm our commitment to building a city where everyone, of all abilities, can live with independence, safety, and pride.
