Mayor Leal's statement following the passing of Paul Wilson

Mayor Jeff Leal has released the following statement following the passing of Paul Wilson, who served as Alderman in the City of Peterborough from 1986 to 1997.

“Paul had an important and impactful influence on the City of Peterborough.  As a multi-sport athlete, Paul reached his personal potential in rugby and squash. His accomplishments were celebrated when he was inducted into the Peterborough & District and University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame. He shared his love of sports as he built the Trent University Athletics program from the ground up, his lasting legacy.

Paul was an independent thinker who inspired great conversations. He profoundly cared about our community as he served as an Alderman and later as an interviewer on Your TV.

A devoted husband, an excellent father, Paul will be dearly missed by his family (son John and daughter Robyn) and friends. Paul lived life out loud, he always had a bright smile on his face and a laugh in his heart. Simply put, he was fun to be around.

On a personal note, Paul, I will miss you. I’m sorry that our last planned get together, cancelled due to your ill health, can no longer be rescheduled. You are a champion. Rest in peace. Cheers to you, my friend.”

The City of Peterborough flag has been lowered to half mast.
