May is Canadian Jewish Heritage Month
Mayor Jeff Leal has issued the following statement recognizing Canadian Jewish Heritage Month in the City of Peterborough:
"Jewish Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the enduring contributions of Jewish Canadians to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of our community and our country.
"Jewish Canadians have a long and proud history in Canada, marked by perseverance, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to justice, education, and community service.
"Canadian Jewish Heritage Month is an opportunity to reflect on that history, to celebrate the richness of Jewish culture, and to reaffirm our collective commitment to combating antisemitism, hate, and discrimination in all its forms. In recognizing this month, we also honour the values that unite us: dignity, diversity, and mutual respect.
"I extend our deepest appreciation to the Jewish community on behalf of the City of Peterborough. Thank you for the many ways you contribute to the life and spirit of our city."
