International Day of Pink: April 8
Mayor Jeff Leal has released the following statement regarding International Day of Pink:
“International Day of Pink takes place this year on April 8. Initiated by a student-led response to bullying, it is a day to come together to stand against discrimination, homophobia and transphobia in our schools, workplaces, and across our city, and to show support for 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
"Wearing pink is a sign of solidarity and a reminder that bullying can have lasting effects on a person’s sense of safety, belonging and well-being. It also sends a message that there is no place for hatred or exclusion.
"International Day of Pink reminds us that creating spaces where everyone feels safe, respected and valued requires ongoing awareness, compassion, and the courage to speak out against bullying and discrimination. Together, let us continue working to build a city rooted in respect, where everyone in Peterborough feels safe to be who they are.”
